Metal or plastic is what made my Android, which is better?

Lately, we have been witnessing a festival of futuristic materials with amazing properties. We have seen plastics able to repair themselves, flexible displays, in short, everything. The issue is that although these materials are wonderful (and I say without the slightest hint of irony, I deeply admire the work of materials engineers) are not something that we will see in the short term in our pockets, and therefore will not become the subject of this article, I’ll talk about some of the materials used and their pros and cons.

Plastic or metal

The truth is that just at first glance, without knowing anything more, all automatically say that the best kind of body that we can offer is cash, but the truth is that if you look, the ceramic bodies (like the HTC One) or hardware (like the iPhone 4) have been the biggest faults with the casing have been associated. It is true that provide a solid feel in the hand unique, but it is also true that materials are expensive and difficult to repair, and although some think that no, they are easier to break than they appear (it is surprising body unibody an iPhone 4 twisted the first time, and it is extremely impossible to straighten …).

However, the plastic looks tacky, and no mistake, is the most widely used material because the material is cheaper and easier to work with. It is a material that can be used and save some hard work in manufacturing and many manufacturers use it for that, but also a more flexible material, and therefore more resistant to impact (though less scratch …). If you work carefully and use a quality plastic (ABS or similar) can get a feel in the hand, that far from being crappy is quite comfortable, and a lightness that does not give any other material. The best (in my opinion) is Sony. The feeling that makes holding an Xperia Arc, for example, is amazing, lightweight, comfortable, and it fits the hand perfectly. In Barcelona enjoyed the great feeling that makes the Huawei Ascend D Quad, so I could continue with many examples, as if the material used is good, whether it’s plastic or not, you can get an excellent feel for the user.

Gorilla Glass is the panacea?

Every time I see hardness testing of Gorilla Glass, the truth is I’m hallucinating, but of course, I have a past, which is unrealistic.

Not that the material is not hard, it is not to say that its scratch resistance tests are not good, they are. What I mean is that the Gorilla Glass is neither more nor less than a crystal, and crystals have the embarrassing habit of exploding before impact. And unfortunately, the most common incident is not usually rubbing a nail so cuasierótica with our screens, but a simple fall, slamming on the brakes to the floor and the unit being subjected to tension, the glass will not burst anymore. In fact, when the same phone has less elastic materials, the voltage at which the glass is subjected is even greater, further facilitating this drawback. So, you see, if you put the keys in your pocket and touch your mobile phone is a plastic and glass can not say goodbye to it. If you drop that phone, your screen will probably survive the impact without problems.

So while I know this article is not very “serious” about the study material (there are much better items made by people who know much more than me), I just wanted to show you is that everything has its pros and cons, and that is ultimately our need for a service or another that determines which will be our final choice, and nothing after all.
